The Australian Peacekeeper and Peacemaker Veterans' Association (APPVA) is one of the 14 veteran organisations that represent our community's needs to the Commonwealth. We are seeking visionary leaders to join our team of existing directors to drive transformative change in veteran wellbeing, advocacy and support and we are a safe place for women. We're calling for dedicated individuals to fill key volunteer roles in our organisation and you may come from the veteran community, or the veteran family community or be a member of the community willing to use your skills for the betterment of Australian veterans and their families.

  • Executive Directors (2 positions)
  • Chief Executive Officer (1 position)
  • Senior State/Territory Leaders (4 positions: QLD, SA, VIC, and TAS)

Who We're Looking For

We seek individuals who:

  • embrace challenges and possess the moral courage to motivate your peers to set aside outdated practices,
  • can articulate a compelling vision for modern veteran governance and modern veteran and veteran family needs,
  • are committed to our core purpose of actively support Veterans and their families in transitioning, achieving well-being, and integrating into society, empowering them to feel valued and attain stability post-service, and
  • believe in, and can deliver on, becoming the most trusted and engaged veteran organisation in Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directors:
  • to set the strategic direction of the association and become involved in minor hands on day to day work, and
  • engage with government at all levels to advocate for veteran and veteran family needs as well as the needs of those who support us like to medical community,
  • All, to:
  • drive the implementation of the recommendations from the Royal Commission that are accepted by the Commonwealth,
  • engage with government at all levels to advocate for veteran and veteran family needs as well as the needs of those who support us,
  • hold DVA accountable to work with our community as equals compliant with DVA's Veteran, Family and Stakeholder Engagement Strategy,
  • collaborate with and build our network of 170+ like-minded organisations, and
  • build the Register of Veteran and Veteran Family Issues

Time Commitment

  • Executive Directors: 4-6 hours/week (one executive director preferably Canberra-based, the other from an area of high veteran population).
  • CEO: You will become the daily driving force of the Association and report to the board. You will need to allocate 10 hours/week and preferably be Canberra-based, however we are flexible. An ideal opportunity for someone who may be unable to undertake paid work, but able to use their personal strengths to run the day to day elements of the Association across the country. You will also run the monthly meetings of the Register of Veteran and Veteran Family Issues.
  • State Representatives: 4 hours/week

If selected, you will need to be able to attend a weekend meeting of the APPVA leaders on the arriving on 11 Oct 24, and meeting on 12 and 13 Oct 24 in Canberra at our expense.

You do not need to be a qualified company director to be selected, however you will need to pass a police check and a working with vulnerable people/children asessment in your state/territory.
