Western Australian Representative – Steve Danaher

My name is Steve Danaher and I enlisted into the ARA(S) on 16 Feb 1977 and after initial training was allocated to RASigs. I saw service in 2 Sig Regt and 152 Sig Sqn SASR and took my discharge in 1983 in Perth. However I realised that adjusting to civilian life was challenging and he re-enlisted in September of the same year and returned SASR and remained with the regiment until a Corps transfer back to RASigs in 1992. I finally discharged in Perth in 2001.

In 1993 I was selected for service in Cambodia with FCU UNTAC; after a training module at Randwick in the eastern suburbs of Sydney I deployed during June and was posted to HQ 2 Sig Sqn located at Battambang in the NW of the country. A highlight of the tour was a Long Tan Commemorative visit which was open to RAInf (and ex-RAInf) members of the contingent. This would be the first official visit to Vietnam by a formed group of Australian troops since reunification of Vietnam in 1975. I returned from Cambodia on 12 November with the last of the troops to return home.

During my civilian career Steve I undertook a variety of IT roles including as the ANZ IT Infrastructure Manager with a global engineering company with over 40000 staff across 40 countries. I then went oin to become the Business Manager for Legacy WA until redundancy in January 2019. During my current retirement I keep busy with volunteer work, and I am Chair of the Council of Owners of a commercial\residential complex in the CBD, President of the Military Historical Society of Australia (WA Branch), Property Manager of the SASR Historical Research Centre, Guide with the Rottnest Volunteer Guides Association and Legatee with Legacy WA.
