On deployment, Members often chat to families and property owners that are recovering from disasters.
Hearing these stories can sometimes bring emotions to the surface for us and affect our own mental health too.
To be prepared for helping others and ourselves, DRA strongly encourages IMT members, Strike Team Leaders (STL’s)
and Members to complete Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and other courses such as safeTALK, and Suicide Intervention ASIST.
These are preferred competencies that are considered when selecting teams for operations and will play a more significant role
as DRA continues to grow.
These courses are run by Open Arms, founded by veterans (formerly VVCS).
They offer FREE training to veterans, reservists, current ADF, their families or those who work with Veterans
(which is anyone involved with DRA).
Workshops are typically held in RSL’s and major Ex-Service Organisations.
View workshops via the Open Arms website link, register directly to Opens Arms online,
or call Open Arms on 1800 011 046.
Remember, once you complete a course, to upload your certificates into Muster in TAB Number 4 Qualifications and Skills.
