Darrin Gibson is one of the survivors of the recent Victorian fires, his wife Leslie and three very young children however were not and perished in their family home. Darrin joined the Army in 1990 as a Gunner in RAA. In 1997 he joined RASigs as a radio operator. He has served in the Joint Telecommunications School, School of Signals, and 104 Signals Squadron at 1 CSR. For those that remember his woodworking skills on OP ANODE with his Honour Roll for Vietnam Veterans, he later commenced his carpentry and joiners apprenticeship at ALTC in Albury-Wodonga. He discharged from the Army in May last year and he and Leslie established their home in Kinglake. He has deployed to Cambodia (93), Bougainville (01), Solomon Islands (04), Iraq (06). He received the Soldiers Medallion for Exemplary Service whilst posted as an Instructor at ARTC Kapooka.

Darrin's family have requested privacy for the loss of Leslie and the children. They have asked me to pass on that they are extremely grateful for the support being offered to Darrin by past and present members. Darrin is now out of his medically induced coma and is receiving extensive medical and family support during this critical time for his recovery. All our thoughts and prayers are with him.
