Renaming of Younger Veterans' Association
- Friday 19 December 2003
Formerly known as the Australian Peacekeepers & Peacemakers Association (APPA), the renaming of the organisation
was changed today at the Associations' National Annual General Meeting at
RSL Victorian Branch HQ. The name change is to the Australian Peacekeeper
& Peacemaker Veterans' Association (APPVA).
"We are keeping in step with the Ex-service and veteran communities", the National President, Paul Copeland said today. "It is essential that the Ex-service, veteran and public communities identifies this association as a veteran organisation." Paul added.
The change has been effected, in order to provide a greater community awareness of what the organisation stands for in regards to Younger Veterans who have deployed to Peacekeeping, Peace Enforcing, Humanitarian, War Operations, Mine Clearing/Training and other Operations by the Australian Defence Force and Police Forces. The organisation caters for the above-mentioned operations that Australia has been involved since 1947 to the present day with operations in Africa, Middle East, Solomon Islands and the Iraq War. The APPVA also caters for the ADF community, who have served Australia's strategic and vital interests.
It also follows the Veterans' Entitlement Act (VEA 1986), definition of Veteran being a returned veteran from war (warlike) operations, Peacekeeping Operations (Including Police veterans), and those who have served in the Defence Forces.
It is requested that all interested parties change the name of the APPA to the APPVA.
