The award of the Australian Meritorious Unit Citation to New Zealand Defence Force personnel who served in the
Force Communications Unit in Cambodia 1992-1993
Kiwi former members of the Force Communications Unit to the UN Transitional Authority in Cambodia [FCU UNTAC]
on the day of the awarding of their Meritorious Unit Citation [MUC] on 5 August 2015, Linton Military Camp - Palmerston North, NZ.
Congratulations to them. This was pleasing to see the end result, and ends an adversarial process since 1999. There is no doubt that the small number of Kiwis that deployed to the FCU UNTAC made significant contributions toward the success of the unit and in turn contribution toward the success of the UN Peacekeeping Operation in Cambodia.
In all, 80 Royal New Zealand Corps of Signals [RNZSIGS] Communications Specialists served under Australian Command from 15 March 1992 through to 7 October 1993. The contribution was 40 personnel over two rotations. The first Contingent serving up to 12 months on OPERATION GEMINI.
The NZDF Medals Section is looking for other RNZSIGS members who served in the ADF FCU UNTAC. Please contact Jack Hayes on Email: email@example.com for further information.
