Good evening all,
I have recently returned for a few weeks in Southern Africa with the main purpose to attend the Silver Jubilee and Presidential inauguration.
We had 6 Australian sapper Veterans attend along with a British Signaller and some Danish Veterans.
On Friday 20th March we presented the Namibian Veterans Affairs Ministers (and Vice President) a framed board from the Australian and NZ contingent.
The Australian High Commissioner South Africa Chargé d'Affaires, Mr Chris Munn, gave a moving account of what the Australian Sappers and 17 Construction Squadron achieved in 1989 and 1990 that tipped mission to becoming a success rather than a failure during the 9 day war which was the final operation for the South Africans and Angolans after 23 years. On the Sat 21st March were were invited as VIPs to attend the celebrations and 3rd Presidential inauguration with government officials and thousands of Namibians.
Also attached is an article on the reunion and some pictures acknowledging the high service of Australians since 1975:
