The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, today reassured members of the NSW veteran community that there would be no interruption to services due to the floods.

Mr Snowdon said flooding was occurring in the state's north and northwest from the Clarence and MacIntyre rivers and was affecting several townships including Tenterfield, Casino, Maclean, Yamba, Grafton, Boggabilla, Tabulam, Ulmarra and surrounding areas.

An estimated 700 veterans currently reside in these regions.

“Department of Veterans’ Affairs clients living in areas of northern NSW affected by recent flooding are reassured that support services are still available to them,” Mr Snowdon said.

“The veteran community can access information on insurance, payments and counselling and I encourage those who have concerns to take advantage of these services.”

The following assistance is available:

Property insurance – Veterans who have their property insured with Defence Service Homes Insurance and whose property has been affected by the floods are encouraged to contact their local customer service officer on 1300 552 662.

Accessing your usual Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) payments – call DVA to discuss your circumstances. Contact 133 254 or 1800 555 254 (regional), for the price of a local call.

Veterans’ Affairs Network (VAN) offices – to contact your local office about any queries or support, or if you need help connecting with local support networks in your area call 1300 55 1918.

The VVCS - Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service – provides supportive, confidential counselling to veterans and their families. The VVCS can be contacted on 1800 011 046, 24 hours a day.

The Department is working with state and federal authorities to ensure help continues to be available to all those affected by floods in both New South Wales and Queensland. Assistance is available through Emergency Management NSW at:
